"Few & Far Between"

by

MURIEL LEWIS
LEAVING A MARK

Vulnerable, gullible and yet so wise
In ways beyond my ken
A prophet, divinely guided
Doubting and fearful
and then

So sure and brave

How can I know someone so well
Who remains a mystery to me
Touching so many in ways unsaid
And leaving a mark for eternity
"RUTH"

Bright eyes,
infectious smile
I've known her
for a little while

Her hair is pretty,
her dress quite worn
She is happy to see me

We visit together one day a week

Most ofen we sit in her little room
That she shares with others in her home
She speaks of her memories of days gone by
Where is the family who left her to die?

My efforts were futile in seeking them out
She's been forgotten, there is no doubt

We speak about Jesus, the songs that she learned
The piano she played, quite beautifully I've heard

A simple, loving woman with so many woes
Is now wasting before and knows me no more

She tells me she wants to die

How can I comfort this wonderful lady
Who is so far away from me now

My touch she repels, my words go unheeded
Oh how I wish I could give what is needed

She never will know what a gift she has given
Allowing me into her life for a while
My visits will always continue
Til she has walked her very last mile

Compassion, caring and love she taught me
Is never too little too late
I'm thankful for our time together
My friend, I am here and we'll wait.

Alone at last,  a quiet time,
My mind's a buzz with many thoughts

Who is this me that people know
Am I the person that they see

A shrug, a laugh, a little tear
What is it that I do not hear

A wee small voice within my soul
Speaks out to me, just let it be

A whisper of a better time, a longing for the past
So I could see with clearer eyes the way things really were

A child cries, What did I do?
Was I aware, I can't recall
It's like I wasn't here.

I went through the motions
Where was I?
Who am I?

................................sent to me by my dear sister,
Muriel Lewis on November 3, 2005.

She sent a short note with the poem which said, "I wrote this a few years ago - seems more relevant to me now than it did then for some reason."

Muriel passed away December 22, 2005.

My sister, my mentor, my best friend......I miss you.
REMEMBERING MURIEL ON HER BIRTHDAY

JUNE 15, 2006
Poem written by Muriel

found by Eric on a shelf between books

When this body dies I'll fly from earth
To a place beyond the sun
Where once I lived and danced and sang
With the angels I'll be one.

The memories of that distant past
Will flood through me again
I'll know why I had left that place
To the earth below the sun
And why I longed for a  place unknown
All the while I lived there.

I know there will be things undone
And things I did as planned
I hope my deeds meant only good
As the scheme of life goes
My undone plans will be passed on
To someone better than me
Who will leave their mark as well.

And someday when all things are done
As God has planned for man
I will sing and dance as I used to do
Someday,
I don't know when.

In Memory of your 1st Birthday in Heaven

Hi Muriel,

Happy 68th birthday, dear,
We wish you love and good cheer,
How much you are missed you'll never know,
Your welcoming arms,
Your winsome charms,
I take with me each day wherever I go.

Shopping was always so exciting
You always helped me
Pick and match.
Playing scrabble together,
Was so much fun, as we
Always had a great laugh.

I love you so much
Miss your gentle touch,
You now have no pain or heartache to face,
You went through so much,
You never made any fuss,
I know you are secure in  a far better place.

Once again Happy Birthday sister dear,
I speak for all of your family here,
Not a day goes by we do not see your smile
Or feel your presence with us all the while.
One day we will all be together again,
In Heaven where you and our Saviour reign.

With love from Eleanor
and your entire family.
Muriel loved her garden
Of that there is no doubt
What little I know I've learned from her
She was always there to help me out.

Muriel loved the yellow rose
As she loved all of nature
We plant this rose bush in honour of her
To grow as her love did, strong and pure.

Muriel loved her family
And we all loved her too
Happy Birthday my sister dear
These yellow roses we've planted for you.

Love always and forever,
Audrey.
