"THE LAST ROSE OF SUMMER"...
by Alan Sawyer, Maine, USA
I would rather have one little rose
From the garden of a friend,
Than to have the choicest flowers
When my life is at an end.
I would rather have the kindness
And a smile that I can see,
Than flattery when my heart is still
And life has ceased to be.
I would rather have a loving smile
From a friend that I know is true,
Than weeping over my lifeless form
When I bid this world adieu.
Then bring on the flowers today
Whether pink, white or red,
I would rather have one flower now
Than a truckload when I'm dead.
Bring them on while I am here
So the flowers I can see,
When my eyes are closed in death
They will be no joy to me.
Life is full of revelations,
Life's trials and tribulations.
We walk a path so straight and narrow,
With tiny little steps
like the wild and restless sparrow.
We love and learn, we love and yearn,
Our restless hearts in need of love.
The most precious of gifts from high above.
SUN AND MOON by Kim Kienapple
Come with me and watch the stars
Light up one by one,
And dance upon the silver moonbeams
Until the break of dawn.
The sun is rising in the east
Above the trees so green
With its shining golden wings
So beautiful to be seen.
The day has come and gone again
And now here is the moon
Switching places with its golden friend
Who will return so soon.
